A viral video purportedly showed six of the GV Florida Transit vehicles racing on a national highway in Cagayan, which led to the suspension of fifteen buses that were part of the GV Florida Transit fleet and were operating on two routes.
An apology was issued by the bus company, which stated that “the content does not align with our company’s values and standards.” On the other hand, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed on Tuesday that he does not accept an apology of this nature.
I spoke with Chairman Guadiz directly and instructed him to pursue the harshest sanctions possible against [GV] Florida Bus. The apology is insufficient, despite the fact that no one was wounded in the incident. Now that I have seen the statement and apology that [GV Florida Transport] has issued, I am informing them that their apology will not be accepted… The buses were converted into sports vehicles by the company.
In addition, Dizon issued a warning that drivers of the bus firm who continue to operate despite the ongoing 90-day preventive ban will be subject to penalties.
Especially to the people who drive those buses, I want to emphasize that I am aware of how difficult it is to find a job in this day and age. But because of your irresponsible actions, you will be without a work for a period of ninety days. If we are successful in catching the corporation in the act of letting these drivers to operate its buses, then I am sorry for you.
When the event occurred, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) also asked the general public to tag the agency online if they witnessed any risky behavior on the road.
