Florida Expressway Tolls Set to Increase in July, Drivers Brace for Higher Costs

There are now more miles of toll roads in Central Florida than there are in any other part of the state, and beginning on Tuesday, cars will be required to pay a higher fee to utilize these highways.

A driver in the area named Vinicius Carrijo de Castro stated that the ever-increasing costs are compelling him to reevaluate his financial plan.

“When it comes to a bill for an entire month, I pay anywhere from one hundred twenty dollars just in tolls,” stated Carrijo de Castro. “It gives me the impression that I will have to include tolls as one of my personal expenses and as one of my priorities on my list of priorities.”

Beginning on July 1, two toll systems in Florida will implement rate increases. Along the Selmon Expressway in Tampa, there will be a toll increase of approximately 5 cents.

“The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority has chosen to continue to apply the minimum required growth,” a spokeswoman for the organization told News 6. “This decision was made in recent years, when inflation has been on the rise and operating and construction costs have increased.”

Tolls will be increased by between two and five cents per toll, according to the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX), which is located closer to home. When you are traveling on CFX roadways, you will be subject to higher tolls; however, there will be an opportunity to save some money.

We would like to remind you that we are the only agency that provides discounts of up to 25 percent for E-PASS clients who make frequent use of our database. According to Racquel Asa, senior director of External Affairs for CFX, this is a customer perk that was resurrected after it had been discontinued on April 1, 2025.

These savings are determined by the number of times that drivers utilize the tolls on a monthly basis, and the scheme was resumed after the state stopped its toll refund program that offered a fifty percent discount in March.

Another driver, Richard Persh, expressed his satisfaction with the fact that there is at least some relief accessible to them.

It’s no secret that we spend a significant amount of time traveling across the state of Florida thanks to the highway. We drove through those tolls at least thirty to forty times every single month. Indeed, we do receive a portion of the discount,” he explained.

The maintenance, construction, and operation of CFX’s 125-mile system are all funded by toll income. Rising tolls continue to be a financial burden for a significant number of motorists.

Carrijo de Castro stated, “Either I take a route that takes me fifty-one minutes and there are no tolls, or I take a route that takes me thirty minutes and I pay like six dollars just to go to work and six dollars to come back, also six dollars.”

With the exception of Central Florida and Tampa, which will be seeing toll rises on July 1, Miami and the Florida Turnpike intend to maintain their current prices.
