What happened to Alexi Breiner?
Alexi Breiner died on June 21 in a motorbike accident in Florida. Breiner was born in New York, but he spent most of his life in Smyrna. He joined the service while he was still in Campbell High School.
His mother, Susan Rivera Breiner, said, “He did JROTC all through high school at Campbell High, and I knew he was very serious about joining the military.”
She says that her son was best friends with Alexi in high school.
“He loved his family and mom… This kid did really well in life. That’s what he did,” Taylor said.
Sure enough, he joined the Marines right away after high school, when he was 17.
“He had such a reason for living,” Rivera Breiner said.
She says her son did his duty for five years, from 2017 to 2022, and that he spent most of that time in Okinawa, Japan.
He wanted to keep serving when he got home, but this time as a police officer.
He became a police officer with the Florida Palm Beach Garden Police Department about a year ago.
A life trying to help others
Rivera Breiner says that her son tried to help people whenever he could while he was a police officer.
“He was an honorable police officer, soldier, and person in general…” I saw a picture of him online that the police had. “He was dressed as a police officer and helping an older woman cross the street. It was so sweet,” she said.
Rivera Breiner says she is saddened over the sudden and terrible death of her son.
She was so proud of how Alexi spent his 25 years on earth, though.
“Proud of him. Very happy and thankful… “It would have been impossible to have a better child,” she said through tears.
People are going to his wake next Thursday, she says, from all over the country and the world.
“They told me that people from Japan are going to fly into Cobb County to hire him.” “Flying in from New York…this child has changed so many lives, and so many lives have changed his in just 25 years,” Rivera Breiner said.
Family asks for help
Rivera Breiner says that her health has gotten worse over the past few years, and that her family’s medical bills have been very expensive.
So she’s asking for help so they can afford to say goodbye to Alexi in a hero’s way.
Taylor says that his family has already spent a lot of money getting his body to Georgia.
“Just to honor my son.” That was the right thing to do. “He earned that in life, and he deserves it now as he moves on,” River Breiner said.
It’s possible to give money to both the GoFundMe and the funeral home.
