Georgia Shoppers Fear Kroger Store Closures Amid Economic Uncertainty

Kroger, one of the biggest grocery stores chains in the country, said it would close 60 stores over the next 18 months. This has made shoppers across Georgia wonder if their local stores will be affected.

The Cincinnati-based company said this in its earnings report for the first quarter of 2025, which came out on Friday, June 20.

Kroger has 1,239 stores in 16 states right now. Indiana, Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Georgia, and Ohio have the most stores per capita. About 5% of the company’s locations will be closing because of the plan.

Are Georgia Kroger stores going out of business?

Kroger hasn’t released a list of the stores that will be closing yet, so many people in Georgia aren’t sure if any of the chain’s 166 stores in 76 cities in the state will be going away.

Customers in Georgia who shop at Kroger are being told to keep an eye on updates from the company and local news sources until a full list comes out.
