There will be no further increase in the cost of higher education for Indiana’s colleges and universities over the course of the next two years.
It was announced today by Indiana Governor Mike Braun that all fifteen of the state’s public colleges and universities will put a freeze on in-state undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees until the 2026-2027 academic year.
This freeze applies to all campuses of Indiana University, Purdue University, Ball State University, and two-year colleges like Ivy Tech and Vincennes University, among others.
Braun made this statement during an event that took place on Tuesday afternoon. “We need to start to where we’re at least holding the cost down so that it could be affordable for those who choose to pursue it,” Braun wrote.
Kaneasha Koebcke, a guidance counsellor at Lawrence Central High School, stated that the current tuition freeze will be beneficial not only to her students but also to their individual parents.
“It helps us as counsellors to help us focus students more on finding the university or college that is the perfect fit for them without having to worry about affordability,” Koebcke explained further. “For our families, that is a burden which will be lifted, especially when helping them with planning.”
At the very least since 2010, Indiana’s public universities have not had any plans to freeze tuition for the entire student body. Every year for the past 14 years, Purdue University has maintained its in-season tuition at a level that is just under $10,000.
Every single one of the other public universities has now stated that they are capable of doing it. “If I were to ask them, I would ask them, ‘Where were you when Purdue is now entering its thirteenth year?'” Braun commented. “Purdue is getting notoriety from many different directions, mostly from parents and students who like the value they’re giving.”
During the academic year 2026-2027, the following colleges and universities will not increase their tuition rates:
- Ball State University
- Indiana State University
- Indiana University Bloomington
- Indiana University East
- Indiana University Indianapolis
- Indiana University Kokomo
- Indiana University Northwest
- Indiana University South Bend
- Indiana University Southeast
- Ivy Tech Community College
- Purdue University West Lafayette
- Purdue University Fort Wayne
- Purdue University Northwest
- University of Southern Indiana
- Vincennes University
Braun made the following statement in a statement that was released on Tuesday morning: “The commitment made by all of Indiana’s public colleges and universities puts students and parents first and demonstrates to the rest of the country that Indiana is a leader in providing a high quality education at an affordable price.”
