According to sources, the gunman entered the Midwood location on Coney Island Avenue at approximately 1:15 p.m. and placed a gun on the back of a woman who was 37 years old. At the time, she was the only customer in the store. The individuals who were working the register ran for cover, and the assailant then fled, firing shots at the door as he fled.
There was no report of any injuries. There was only one customer inside the post office at the time of the incident, and it was unclear how many employees were present at the time of the incident.
A man wearing a helmet and carrying a red bookbag as he fled the scene on a black moped and was last seen driving north on Coney Island Avenue was described as the person who carried out the shooting, according to the sources.
A short while later, a person who appeared to be related to the person who is suspected of shooting was seen on Utica Avenue, according to sources. After crashing his moped just as he was about to leave, he was taken into custody by the police shortly after the accident.
