High-Speed Pursuit in Cumberland County Ends in Deadly Crash

A tragic collision occurred on Interstate 81 on Thursday afternoon, according to state troopers, which was the result of a police pursuit.

In a statement released on Friday, the Cumberland County Coroner Charles Hall named the motorcyclist as Thomas Staff, who was 24 years old and from Lebanon.

near approximately seven o’clock in the evening, the collision took place near the conclusion of the on-ramps leading from United States Routes 11 and 15 onto Interstate 81.

At around 6:50 p.m., West Shore Regional Police made an effort to pull over Staff in Wormleysburg for various traffic charges, as reported by the Pennsylvania State Police.

During the course of the pursuit, Staff collided with a tractor trailer that was parked in the median between the on-ramps and the driving lanes of Interstate 81 in East Pennsboro Township. This intersection is located just west of the George N. Wade Memorial Bridge.

According to troopers, the staff suffered fatal injuries.

State troopers, including an accident reconstruction squad and a forensic services section, are conducting an investigation into the incident.

It was little before 11 o’clock when the ramps leading from U.S. 11/15 to Interstate 81 Northbound were reopened.
