An individual from San Marino was taken into custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after it was suspected that he had murdered his wife in January.
Yoon Lai, 62 years old, was identified as the individual by the deputies. On Tuesday, July 8, detectives will present their case to the District Attorney’s Office for the County of Los Angeles. He is currently being held on a warrant that does not allow him to post bond.
On January 6, the San Marino Fire Department discovered the body of Irene Gaw-Lai, who was 56 years old and Lai’s wife. She was found dead on the doorstep of the couple’s home, which was located in the 2000 block of Lorain Road. It was first reported that firefighters were called to the residence because there was a fire.
Deputy sheriffs acquired an arrest warrant for Lai and captured him at his residence in San Gabriel on Thursday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. This came after they had served 25 search warrants.
No more explanation was provided by the detectives regarding the purported reason for the killing.
