Despite the fact that more than fifty Fourth of July fireworks shows are set to take place this week around the Chicago suburbs, the fireworks display that was once considered to be the largest in Illinois will not take place until 2025 owing to “unique challenges.”
Itasca’s Fourth of July fireworks were canceled, according to an announcement that was made in March of this year. The announcement came after the Village Board conducted a meeting in which they cited various obstacles that prevented the area from conducting the annual event. There were a number of factors that led to the decision to cancel the event, including an increase in the total budget by 43 percent, k, and a decrease in the amount of land space that was available for activities.
“Staff would reevaluate the viability of fireworks on July 4th in future years,” according to the written communication.
According to the document, the event, which is traditionally held at Hamilton Lakes Business Park, has resulted in hotels in the vicinity receiving reservations that are completely full. Over the course of the past decade, the fireworks show in Itasca has been able to boast of being the “largest in Illinois” in terms of the amount of money spent on pyrotechnics during a single show.
“This was an extremely difficult decision to make,” said Village Administrator Carie Anne Ergo in a statement that announced the decision when it was made public. Itasca is quite proud of the fact that it stages the largest and most impressive fireworks show in the northern Illinois region. Our top focus is always to ensure the safety and security of the people who live in Itasca, as well as the city’s businesses and visitors. Due to the one-of-a-kind difficulties that have arisen this year, we are unable to recommend that fireworks be held in 2025 with complete assurance.
Ergo continued by stating that the staff will start exploring the prospect of having fireworks once more in the year 2026 during the forthcoming fall season.
