A Texas woman died over the weekend in a terrible accident on Interstate 35 in Warren County.
A crash report from the Iowa State Patrol says that Poonam Salsbury, 55, of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, died on Sunday, June 15, when she got out of a moving car on an interstate going north. Police say Salsbury was a passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee when she suddenly opened the back passenger door and got out of the car while it was going 70 miles per hour on the highway.
The police and firefighters got there quickly, but Salsbury was already dead when they arrived.
The terrible event happened in Warren County, just south of Des Moines, in an area that is mostly farmland. Investigators are still trying to figure out what happened before she suddenly and fatally got out of the car. It’s still not clear why she got out of the car while it was moving. The accident didn’t involve any other cars, and the Jeep driver hasn’t been named in public.
That is still being looked into by the Iowa State Patrol, and it is still unknown if any underlying medical or mental health issues played a part. In the coming weeks, toxicology findings and more information may be made public.
Poonam Salsbury lived in Holly Lake Ranch, an East Texas neighborhood that is small and close-knit. Her neighbors and friends said she was friendly, warm, and involved in her community. People who knew her are very sad about her death.
This terrible event is a sobering warning of how unpredictable life is and how important it is to understand and help people with mental health problems. Anybody who may have seen what happened or who knows more about it should call the police.
Right now, no more information has been made public.
