by JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. – A homicide investigation in Jeffersonville took a disturbing turn Friday morning after police discovered a man dead inside his home, leading to the arrest of a family member following a tense 4-hour standoff with SWAT teams.
Welfare Check Leads to Shocking Discovery
According to the Jeffersonville Police Department, officers were called around 10 a.m. for a welfare check in the 1700 block of Summerlin Place. When officers entered the residence, they found a man dead of what investigators described as a “very apparent” homicide.
Police later confirmed the victim’s body was found without a head.
Severed Head Found at Second Location
Leads quickly directed detectives to a second location just minutes away, in the 3000 block of Callaway Drive. At this residence, police said they discovered a severed head, intensifying the investigation.
The home was identified as belonging to the suspect’s mother.
Armed Standoff With Police
At the second location, police identified Bryce Winnecke as the primary suspect. Officers reported that Winnecke was outside the home and armed when they arrived. He retreated back inside, prompting authorities to call in the SWAT team.

Charges and Family Connection
Police confirmed that Winnecke, who is related to the victim, has been charged with murder. Officials did not elaborate on the exact nature of the family relationship but emphasized that the case was an isolated incident.

Police Chief Kenny Kavanaugh described the crime scene as “horrific.”

“I know those are rumors that are floating around. Unfortunately, right now we can’t really release any information that confirms the state of the injury one way or another.”
