BRIERFIELD, Ala. — A kayaker who had overturned in the Cahaba River was able to self-rescue and was able to be safely reunited with his family as a result of the combined efforts of the local emergency services.
According to Brierfield Volunteer Fire & Rescue, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office made a request for mutual assistance after Bibb E911 dispatchers got a report of a kayak that had capsized and a person was in the water. Rescue units R200, R205, and E202, each consisting of seven individuals, arrived at the location of the incident.
Responders discovered that the kayaker had already saved themselves and was situated in a remote area of the forest when they arrived at the scene. A Bibb County officer and a Brierfield paramedic were able to locate the kayaker in a short amount of time by making use of the most recent cell phone coordinates that were provided by Bibb County E911.
After that, the kayaker was brought to a nearby staging location, where he was ultimately reunited with his family. The readiness of the kayaker and his capacity to maintain his composure in the face of intense pressure were cited as key contributors to the favorable outcome by the authorities.
The authorities would like to express their extraordinary gratitude to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the Bibb County Emergency 911, and the Woodstock Police Department for their aid throughout the rescue operation.
