Long Island Woman Killed in Head-On Crash with Suspected Drunk Driver

Two people were killed in a head-on crash on Long Island on Tuesday night. One of the drivers was thought to be drunk.

It took place on Seaman’s Neck Road near St. James Catholic Church in Bethpage just after 11:30 p.m.

Police say Seaford resident Joseph Curto, 54, was going south in the southbound lanes and hit a car driven by a 40-year-old woman head-on. The woman died at the scene of the accident. Her name has not been made public yet.

Curto was caught at a bar and charged with DWI. He is in serious condition in the hospital.

“This is a very dangerous spot”

Christopher Cesarani is a school teacher who lives on Seaman’s Neck Road. He and his friend rushed out of their homes when they heard the crash to help.

“I saw his car by the tree, and her car wrapped around that pole,” he said. “They tried to get her out of the car, but they felt her pulse and she had no pulse.”

The noise was so loud that John Nixon, a homeowner in Bethpage, ran outside and saw that the cars were already in their final spots. “And unfortunately, the woman in the car had passed away.”

“The cars’ speed would have caused them to crash.” Nixon added, “She wouldn’t have even had a chance to steer out of the way.”

He said that people on his street drive quickly.

“Years ago, a drunk driver went through my garage,” he stated.

“This is a very dangerous spot here because of the curve in the road,” he said.
