Los Angeles, CA — A shocking lawsuit has been filed in Los Angeles County alleging that the ex-wife of a well-known addiction specialist orchestrated his brutal murder out of greed, jealousy, and years of financial disputes. The case has drawn widespread attention in Southern California, not only for its chilling details but also because the slain physician was known for treating celebrities, athletes, and thousands of patients battling addiction.
Lawsuit Filed by Widow of Dr. Hamid Mirshojae
The wrongful death lawsuit was filed by Ghazal Simorgh, the widow of Dr. Hamid Mirshojae, who was gunned down outside his Woodland Hills treatment center in August 2024. Simorgh alleges that her husband’s ex-wife, 53-year-old Ahang Mirshojae, spent years harassing and intimidating the doctor, eventually plotting his murder to gain financially and out of jealousy after he remarried.
According to the lawsuit, Ahang was motivated by “outright greed, reckless spending, and vengeance.”
Decade-Long Feud and Rising Tensions
Court documents reveal that the Mirshojaes divorced in 2010, but their separation led to more than a decade of bitter disputes. Simorgh, who married Hamid in 2022 and shares a young daughter with him, says the ex-wife never stopped making financial demands and resented his new family.
The lawsuit accuses Ahang of demanding money “due to her reckless spending and inability to manage finances” and describes her as “extremely jealous” that Hamid had moved on with a new wife and child.
Alleged Murder Plot
Authorities allege that Ahang assembled a group of accomplices to carry out the killing, including:
- Evan Hardman, 41 – accused of pulling the trigger
- Ashley Rose Sweeting, 41 – alleged getaway driver
- Sarallah Jawed, 27 – helped Hardman escape to Texas
- Shawn Randolph, 46 – alleged co-conspirator
Prosecutors say Ahang and Hardman spent weeks meticulously planning the murder. On August 23, 2024, Hardman allegedly ambushed Dr. Mirshojae as he left his clinic around 5:30 p.m., shooting him in the back of the head.
Sweeting is accused of driving Hardman from the scene, while Jawed allegedly transported him out of state after the killing.
Previous Attack Attempt
The lawsuit also claims the August shooting wasn’t the first violent plot. Prosecutors allege that Ahang hired Hardman and Jawed earlier in May 2024 to attack the doctor with a blunt object, believed to be a baseball bat.
Although that assault failed to kill him, it showed, prosecutors argue, a pattern of escalating violence leading up to the fatal ambush in August.
Criminal Charges Filed
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced in December that multiple suspects had been arrested in connection with the case.
- Ahang Mirshojae has been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
- Hardman faces a first-degree murder charge with the allegation of “lying in wait.”
- Sweeting has been charged as an accessory after the fact.
- Jawed and Randolph face additional charges tied to aiding in the escape and planning.
Hochman described the killing as a “cold, calculated, and chilling crime” that represented one of the most deceitful cases his office has handled.

Community in Shock
The murder has left friends, family, and patients devastated. Dr. Mirshojae, who emigrated from Iran, had built a respected medical career in Los Angeles, working in emergency medicine for over 20 years and later specializing in addiction treatment.
His clinic became known for helping Hollywood figures and athletes struggling with substance abuse. His biography stated that he “helped thousands achieve sobriety and rebuild their lives.”
Family friend Maryem Alaei told local station KTLA: “Everyone in Woodland Hills and across LA knew him as a kind, funny, and caring doctor. He always helped people.”
His younger brother, Alireza Mirshojae, said the betrayal was almost impossible to comprehend: “Their father was killed, and now their mother was the cause. I can’t understand how someone could feel so much anger and resentment.”
Civil Case Moving Forward
While the criminal prosecution continues, the civil lawsuit filed by Simorgh seeks damages against Ahang Mirshojae and the other alleged conspirators. Legal experts say the wrongful death suit could expose more financial motives behind the murder-for-hire scheme.
Simorgh’s attorneys argue the killing was part of a long-term pattern of harassment fueled by greed and jealousy, leaving a young daughter without her father.
What Happens Next
The case is still unfolding, with court dates pending for the criminal charges and the civil lawsuit expected to proceed in tandem. Legal analysts suggest the civil case could reveal even more disturbing details about the planning of the murder.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles medical community continues to grieve the loss of a doctor known for his dedication to patients and his ability to give people second chances.
