Man Accused of Scamming Car Sellers and Buyers Through Facebook

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a guy they say used fake Facebook accounts to trick people in the Midlands into selling and buying cars.

Sheriff Leon Lott said that Javon Reeves, who is 31 years old, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with two counts of getting over $10,000 worth of goods by lying about who they were.

Investigators say Reeves made several fake Facebook accounts with real names and photos to show that he was a real buyer.

Reeves went after people who sold cars, mostly UTVs, and asked for their bank information, saying he would wire the money straight to them.

Officials said Reeves would then take the car and show the victims proof of a planned wire transfer.

South Carolina will get a lot of rain from a coastal low.

Investigators say the transfers were fake, and the money will be sent back to the sender. The police said Reeves sold the cars to other people.

Reeves is at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Centre right now. The probe is still going on.

The sheriff’s office said that anyone who bought a car from Reeves should call RCSD at (803) 576-3000.
