Police in Fort Lauderdale said on Monday that they had taken into custody a guy who had been recorded on camera assaulting a rooster.
Marcus May, who is thirty years old, is being charged with seven charges of severe animal cruelty.
When the rooster, who goes by the name Roger, appeared on Jamie Carr’s doorstep two years ago, he decided to take him in as a pet and keep him as a pet.
Roger’s residence was located on the southwest side of Riverside Park, next to the intersection of Southwest 12th Avenue and 6th Street, behind Carr’s shop.
Roger approached May on April 15 after flying over a fence and approaching her.
During the course of the surveillance video, May was seen pursuing Roger with a bag and then beating the bird with an umbrella on many occasions.
He had a lot of opportunities to leave the situation. “All you have to do is push him away,” Carr stated in response to the video. “He actually went to his car, took the umbrella out of his car after he had already left, and then proceeded to beat him somewhere between two and three thousand times.”
In the aftermath of the assault, Roger sustained a broken wing as well as a fractured leg, and he had to have surgery.
Carr said that the thrashing was both extremely severe and completely unnecessary. Under a pile of wood, we were able to spot him. However, he was cowering beneath the woodpile, despite the fact that he is typically the most self-assured and active creature. We were aware that it was a really severe matter.
After being treated at the Welleby Veterinary Hospital in Sunrise for a period of five weeks, Roger the Rooster has now attained complete recovery.
