Man Caught Driving 132 MPH on Connecticut Highway Claims He Was Late for Job Interview

According to state police, a 19-year-old male who is accused of driving at 132 miles per hour on Interstate 91 in Cromwell on Wednesday morning informed police that he did not stop for a state trooper because he was late for a job interview. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday morning, shortly before 9 o’clock, a state trooper who was working a motor vehicle enforcement detail witnessed a Mercedes E300 travelling at an excessively high speed on Interstate 91 South near exit 22 in Cromwell. A speed laser unit determined that the car was travelling at 132 miles per hour, as reported by state police.

An attempt was made by a state trooper to stop the driver, but he continued to drive, thus the police decided to call off the pursuit.

According to the police, when they contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, they discovered that a gentleman from Cromwell who was 19 years old was behind the wheel at the time.

In response to a call from detectives, he acknowledged to driving and stated that the reason he did not stop was because he was running late for a job interview, as reported by state police.

Reckless driving, disregarding the signal of an officer, failing to maintain lane, passing on the right, illegal turn, passing at an unsafe distance, engaging police in a pursuit, interfering with an officer, and reckless endangerment in the first degree are the charges that have been brought against the suspect.

In addition to being freed on a bond of $2,500, he is slated to make an appearance in Middletown Superior Court on June 17th.
