Naperville (Illnois)— The body of a man was recovered from the water at Centennial Beach in Naperville, Illinois, on Thursday evening. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers were dispatched to the beach located at 500 Jackson Avenue in Naperville at approximately 5:43 p.m., according to the Naperville Police Department.
A little after six o’clock in the evening, lifeguards discovered the victim, a man who was 27 years old, asleep in the water. He was transferred to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive his stay there. They have not disclosed his identification at this time.
According to the preliminary findings of the inquiry, the victim and a group of companions entered the water with the intention of swimming to a floating pier that was located in the center of the deep end. Following their arrival at the dock, the pals became aware that the victim had not been found.
The pals made their way back to the shore and informed the lifeguards, who then initiated the procedures for missing persons.
Police said there was no foul play, and the investigation into the death remains ongoing by police and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.
Centennial Beach will be closed on Friday, the Naperville Park District said.
