Man Driving Pittsburgh School Van with Children Admits to Drinking After Crash Escape

Authorities said on Friday that the driver of a school van in Pittsburgh admitted to drinking after running away from a crash while carrying kids.

Public Safety in Pittsburgh said the driver of the school van hit another car on the 16th Street Bridge and then left the scene of the accident. According to police, the driver was taking about six 10-year-olds.

Public Safety in Pittsburgh said that the teens started calling their parents to let them know what was going on. Police used the kids’ phones to track down the van. At the corner of Becks Run Road and Wagner Street, officers from the Mt. Oliver Borough Police found the car and stopped the driver. According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, the driver told police that he had been drinking.

The kids were safely given back to their families, and no injuries were recorded.

People in charge said that the driver is being held at the Allegheny County Jail. Pittsburgh Public Safety also said that he will be charged with driving while drunk.

The Baldwin-Whitehall School school said in a statement late Friday night that the van was run by First Student and that the driver is not an employee of the school.

As of Friday night, the driver had not been found. The study keeps going.
