MONTAUK, NY – Authorities have identified the woman found dead onboard a docked vessel at the Montauk Yacht Club early Tuesday as 33-year-old Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, a well-known Manhattan-based designer who spent her summers working on Long Island’s East End.
Discovery of the Body
According to the Suffolk County Police Department, Nolan-O’Slatarra—known professionally and socially as Martha Nolan—was discovered unconscious on a boat at approximately 12 a.m. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The cause of death remains under investigation and will be determined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office. Crime scene investigators remained at the marina late into the night, with a Suffolk County Crime Laboratory van and a mobile command post stationed on-site past 9 p.m.
Eyewitness Accounts from Yacht Club Members
Several members of the Montauk Yacht Club reported hearing screaming from the docks late Monday night. One club member told The New York Post, “She was well known in the community. She was very friendly. Always smiling. There’s going to be a lot of conversation out of this.”
Another long-time member described the scene as “unsettling” and said the news had sent shockwaves through the typically tranquil marina.
Martha Nolan’s Career and Local Presence
Nolan was more than just a seasonal resident; she was an entrepreneur, marketing consultant, and the founder of the fashion brand East x East, known for its luxury summerwear.
Originally from Ireland, Nolan moved to the U.S. at the age of 26 and quickly immersed herself in the East End fashion scene. In a 2023 interview with the Irish Independent, she discussed launching pop-up shops in the Hamptons and her plans to expand her brand.
Just last month, she celebrated a pop-up at Montauk’s Gurney’s Resort, proudly sharing her success on TikTok with the caption: “Goals Achieved” alongside clips showcasing her swimwear, resort wear, and accessories.
