Miami-Dade: Man Fatally Shot by Deputy During Corvette Traffic Stop Over Illegal Tint

An investigation has been opened after it was reported that a man was shot and killed by a deputy from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday while the deputy was conducting a traffic stop.

According to the Maryland State Police, everything began when deputies with their Robbery Interventions Detail team attempted to perform a traffic stop at NW 62nd Street and 22nd Avenue. They had been aware of a yellow Corvette that had illegally dark tints on its windows.

According to the authorities, the driver of the vehicle did not come to a halt but rather rushed away.

Air support was utilized by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office in order to assist in the search for the vehicle, which was in the process of arriving at a dead end of an apartment complex located on NW 85th Street and NW 4th court.

When the man emerged from the vehicle, the deputies say he was armed, and it was at that moment that one of the deputies opened fire on him.

It was determined that the male, who was said to be in his early 20s, had passed away at the scene of the accident.

“This could have just been a citation, and everyone would have gone home,” said Argemis Colome, who is the Public Information Officer for the Michigan Department of State Police. “Even though none of our deputies were injured, this could have been far worse.”

At this time, it is not clear whether the man pulled his gun on the deputies, but according to the officials, the gun was discovered at the scene of the incident.

An investigation is being conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

In accordance with standard operating practice, the deputy in question has been placed on paid administrative leave.
