Miami Tragedy: Unlicensed Driver Arrested After Scooter Rider Dies in Crash

During a collision that occurred over the weekend, a woman from Miami who is 23 years old and has never been issued a driver’s license was taken into custody. According to the police, she was responsible for the death of a man who was riding an electric scooter.

It was just after three o’clock in the afternoon when the collision took place at the intersection of Northwest 54th Street and Northwest Fifth Avenue, which is located close to the Little Haiti neighborhood in Miami, according to the Miami police.

The victim, who was riding a scooter westbound on the right shoulder, suddenly made a fast left turn to cross the road from north to south, according to the investigators. Shanetta Chantell Gilbert was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima eastbound in the left lane of Northwest 54th Street at the time of the incident.

Apparently, the man “violated” Gilbert’s right of way, which resulted in a collision between the two vehicles.

According to the police, the man was struck by the front of Gilbert’s vehicle, and he came to a stop in the westbound lanes of Northwest 54th Street.

According to the police, the victim suffered an evisceration to the abdomen, a broken left leg, a broken ankle, and a traumatic brain injury. The victim was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition. Miami Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and transported the victim there.

On Tuesday, the authorities confirmed that the victim had passed away as a result of his injuries. The information regarding his age and identity has not been made public as of Tuesday afternoon.

In spite of the initial reports that the collision was a hit-and-run, they stated that Gilbert remained at the scene and actively cooperated with the officers.

The records check that was conducted revealed that Gilbert had never been issued a driver’s license that was still valid, as stated by the investigators.

As a result of an accident, she is being charged with one count of not possessing a valid driver’s license, according to the records of the jail.

There was no record of Gilbert being incarcerated on the website of the Miami-Dade Corrections Department as of Tuesday.
