Minnesota Miracle: Stowaway Cat Survives 3-Week Journey From China in Shipping Container

A cat that now lives in Minnesota has been on a dangerous, long trip across the world.

She is now known as Stowaway by the staff at the Northwoods Humane Society in Wyoming, Minnesota.

Renee Rude, executive director of Northwoods, said, “It’s amazing.” “It really is shocking that that happened.”

It came all the way from China and was found in a shipping container in Oakdale.

Before she gets stronger again, she doesn’t want a lot of care or to do much.

Rude said, “She’s really scared.” “I can’t imagine being locked up in a box for three weeks without food or water.” It looks like she was eating mice and drinking rainwater.

The animal rescue group Companion Animal Care and Control in Minnesota and Wisconsin says she was “severely dehydrated and dangerously thin.”

Their journey took them to Northwoods, where Rude says she ate and drank.

“We don’t want to stress her out, so we haven’t been able to do an actual exam and assess her health, but she looks OK,” she stated. “We don’t see any obvious injuries or illnesses or anything.”

The cat was moving around again. Tuesday, she went to Pet Haven in St. Paul, where she had already found a foster home.

“They’re going to be able to work with her and help her get to a point where she can trust people and feel comfortable around people,” he said. “Ultimately, the goal is to find a family of her own and be adopted.”

According to Rude, the little cat shows how strong animals can be.

“I look forward to hearing in a month’s time or two months’ time about the turnaround she makes,” she told me.

The cat’s official name is still being thought over.
