Reading, PA – A tragic case has unfolded in Berks County, Pennsylvania, after a family of three who went missing earlier this month was found dead across separate locations, police confirmed. The devastating discovery began when 33-year-old Junior Cabrera-Colon was found with a fatal gunshot wound, followed by the recovery of his wife and young son’s bodies days later.
The heartbreaking incident has shaken the community and raised numerous questions as authorities continue investigating the suspicious deaths of the Cabrera-Colon family.
A Harrowing Timeline of Disappearance and Discovery
According to the City of Reading press release, the last confirmed sighting of the family was on September 12. The following day, Cabrera-Colon was discovered dead near Baer Park in Reading, with the cause of death identified as a gunshot wound to the head.
- September 12: Junior Cabrera-Colon, Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, and their 1-year-old son Jayden last seen.
- September 13: Cabrera-Colon found dead in Reading.
- September 19: The body of Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo found in a grassy field in Ontelaunee Township.
- September 20: Jayden’s body discovered partially submerged in a marsh near his mother’s location.
Confession and Charges Against Suspect Jose Luis Rodriguez
On September 18, investigators interviewed 61-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez, who allegedly admitted to shooting Cabrera-Colon in the head and abandoning his body near Baer Park. Rodriguez faces several serious charges, including:
- First-degree murder
- Third-degree murder
- Abuse of a corpse
- Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
- Possession of an instrument of crime
- Tampering with evidence
“Rodriguez remains in jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 3 for a preliminary hearing,” said the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
Unanswered Questions Surrounding Mother and Child’s Deaths
While Cabrera-Colon’s cause of death is clear, the specific circumstances leading to the deaths of Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo and their son Jayden remain undisclosed. Autopsy results ruled both deaths as homicides.
