Nationwide Recall of California-Grown Peaches Due to Listeria Contamination Risk

Los Angeles, CA – Moonlight Companies has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of its California-grown conventional yellow and white peaches after detecting Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in the packing facility environment. This recall addresses a potential health risk associated with the contaminated fruit, though no illnesses have been reported so far.

The recalled peaches were distributed in retail stores across the United States between September 16 and October 29, 2025. Consumers are urged to check their peaches for specific lot codes and packaging details to avoid exposure to this harmful bacteria.

The Recall Details: Which Products Are Affected?

The recall covers several varieties of California-grown conventional peaches packed at facility code P1. Key details include:

  • Moonlight Yellow Peaches (individual or multi-pack) with PLU stickers 4401, 4044
  • Moonlight White Peaches (individual or multi-pack) with PLU stickers 4401, 4044
  • Moonlight White Peaches “Peppermint Peach” multi-packs
  • Kroger Yellow Peaches in multi-packs (UPC: 11110 18174)

All affected peaches include specific lot codes such as 01PCLC, 113PCAF, 159PCABA, among many others. Notably, peaches labeled as “Washington” or “Organic” are not part of this recall.

Why Listeria Contamination Is a Serious Concern

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria known to cause severe infections, especially risky to pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, including:

  • Fever and headache
  • Stiffness and nausea
  • Abdominal pain and diarrhea

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) highlights that pregnant women are particularly vulnerable, as listeria infections can result in miscarriages and stillbirths.

“Listeria outbreaks, while rare, pose significant health risks and require swift action to prevent serious illness,” said an FDA spokesperson.

Consumer Guidance and Next Steps

Consumers who purchased any of the recalled peaches should:

  • Check the packaging for the lot codes and PLU stickers listed in the recall announcement.
  • Return or discard any peaches that match the affected batches.
  • Contact Moonlight Companies at 855-215-5017 for further questions, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
