Needles, CA: Fatal Crash on I-40 Involving Two Tractor Trailers Reported by CHP

The California Highway Patrol is describing the collision that occurred late on Sunday morning on Interstate 40 as a fatal accident. The collision involved two tractor trailers and occurred just east of the California Ag Station.

The California Highway Patrol reported that one person had been killed. It was not immediately possible to obtain any additional information, including whether or not there were no other injuries.

According to the communication center of the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred on westbound Interstate 40 just before 11 a.m., with one truck becoming lodged underneath the other and blocking one lane. A hazmat diesel spill that occurred on the roadway was reported to Caltrans. All lanes were shut down at approximately 12:02 p.m., and traffic was rerouted around the accident site.

It has been reported that while crews were working to clear the roadway, traffic was backed up for several hours.

UPS was the owner of one of the semis that was involved, as stated by the CHP Communication Center.

On Sunday, there was no additional information that emerged.
