According to the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, a woman who was reported missing after falling into the South Yuba River on Saturday evening has not been located.
There were reports of a person falling into the water in the South Yuba River near the Highway 49 bridge at approximately 8:30 p.m., which prompted the dispatch of crews from the Fire District.
Emergency crews promptly began a search and rescue operation after receiving the call. The Fire District stated that they had teams participating in the effort, including swift water teams, aerial surveillance teams, and workers that were conducting bank-side identification.
It was determined that the woman had not been located on Saturday, thus the search activities were halted for reasons of safety. Sunday was the day that officers of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department who are responsible for search and rescue took over the search operation.
“The South Yuba River is known for its cold, swift waters and slippery rocks, which can create hazardous conditions even for experienced swimmers,” according to information provided by the Fire District.
For the time being, the woman is still being looked for.
