North Carolina Tragedy: 13-Year-Old Boy Wanted for Grandmother’s Killing Fatally Shot by Police

Hoke County, NC – A tragic and deeply emotional event unfolded in North Carolina as a 13-year-old boy wanted in connection with his grandmother’s murder was fatally shot by a deputy during a police chase. The shocking incident has left the community reeling as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and the grandmother’s death.

The Fatal Incident and Initial Investigation

The sequence of events began approximately 90 miles outside of Raleigh, where deputies responded to a welfare check at the home of 68-year-old Connie Linen. Upon arrival, authorities pronounced Linen dead and later confirmed her death was the result of a homicide.

Detectives quickly identified Linen’s grandson as a suspect and completed the necessary paperwork charging him with first-degree murder. The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that the boy, described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing around 150 pounds, was wanted in connection to the crime.

Police Pursuit and Fatal Shooting

Following notification of the homicide, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office located the boy behind an abandoned mobile home in the Cameron area. When approached by deputies, the teenager fled on foot.

During the pursuit, the boy reportedly picked up a two-by-four piece of lumber from a yard and charged at a deputy, prompting the officer to shoot the teen in self-defense, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

“This has been a tragic and emotional situation for everyone involved,” said Hoke County Sheriff Roderick Virgil on Friday. “We ask that our community come together with compassion and understanding as we all process this difficult event.”
