The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in north Denver have reopened after being temporarily closed due to a serious accident that occurred on Wednesday evening.
The Denver Police Department reports that the collision involved multiple vehicles, one of which was a motorcycle, and that it resulted in the closure of all westbound lanes at the Brighton Boulevard exit for approximately one hour.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene in a timely manner and immediately began working to clear the wreckage and ensure the safety of those who were involved. One individual was taken to the hospital, but the status of their condition has not yet been disclosed.
During the evening rush hour, the closure caused significant traffic backups in the area, and many drivers were forced to reroute their vehicles through surface streets in the surrounding area. Just after sunset, crews were able to successfully reopen the lanes, which allowed traffic to gradually return to its normal state.
Despite the fact that the investigation is still ongoing, the authorities have not yet disclosed any information regarding the cause of the collision. As they make their way back to their evening commute, drivers in the area are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
In addition to expressing gratitude to motorists for their patience during the closure, the Denver Police Department reminded motorists to always drive attentively and to give emergency responders additional space. This is especially important in areas with heavy traffic.
