As a result of a deadly collision that occurred on Monday, the Greensboro Urban Loop was completely closed to traffic, as stated in a press statement issued by the Greensboro Police Department.
At approximately 5:10 in the morning, the collision took place on Interstate 840 West close to Mile Marker 9. Immediately following the collision that occurred at Exit 10 for North Elm Street, all lanes of Interstate 840 were shut down.
On Interstate 840 East, Greensboro resident Ka’Shawn Le’Kendric Williamson, 20, was operating a Dodge Charger when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the road to the left, colliding with a railing and cable median barriers instead. The Chevrolet Charger flipped over and came to a stop in the left lane of the westbound traffic.
He was driving a Nissan Maxima westbound on Interstate 840 when his vehicle collided with the Charger. The driver was 61 years old and from Browns Summit.
In addition to suffering serious injuries, Williamson was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
After suffering severe injuries, the man from Browns Summit was sent to a hospital for treatment.
In order to get back onto Interstate 840 West, cars heading westbound were instructed to take Exit 10 for North Elm Street and then continue it until they reach Bass Chapel Road. After that, they were to make a left turn on Air Harbor Road, then another left turn on Lake Brandt Road, and finally, they were to turn onto Lawndale Road.
