On Thursday evening, June 19, the Kansas City Police Department reports that a collision that occurred on Interstate 435 close to Cookingham Drive resulted in the death of one individual.
On Interstate 435, at Cookingham Drive, a Toyota RAV4 was travelling eastbound when the driver crossed the median and collided head-on with a semi-truck that was travelling westbound. According to the police, the collision occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The driver of the RAV4 was ejected from the vehicle and perished as a result of the accident, according to the police. He was the only person inside there.
In spite of the fact that the driver of the semi-truck was allegedly unscathed, the collision caused the fuel tanks of the truck to rupture, which resulted in the truck and trailer becoming completely engulfed in flames, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
At this time, the westbound lanes of Interstate 435 are still closed, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
Compared to 48 fatalities at this time last year, this is the 36th fatality that has occurred.
