More than two hundred employees will be impacted by Michaels’ decision to close its distribution center in Tracy, which is scheduled to take place within the next few months.
Based on a WARN notice that was submitted to the state on June 6, the location that is located along W Sugar Road is scheduled to permanently close by August 4, which will result in the loss of employment for 229 employees.
A week prior to this announcement, Michaels made the announcement that it had acquired the intellectual property and private label brands of its competitor Joann, which has since gone out of business. The reason, according to Michaels, is that there has been a surge in interest in yarn, sewing, and fabrics.
Additional Michaels distribution facilities can still be found all over the United States, including one in Lancaster, which is located in the state of California.
We have attempted to get a comment from Michaels, and this article will be updated as soon as we receive a response.
Blue Diamond made the announcement last week that it will be closing its Sacramento facility on C Street, which will have an impact on more than 600 employees. This announcement was made in another part of the Sacramento and Central Valley region.
In addition, UPS is closing its Stockton hub and laying off approximately 350 employees from its West Sacramento hub as part of what is being referred to as “operational restructuring.” At its Stockton location, UPS was unable to confirm the exact number of employees who were affected by the incident; however, the company stated that it was working to place as many of them as possible in other positions.
It is required by the WARN Act that notices be given at least sixty days before a layoff.
