TULARE COUNTY, Calif.- A head-on collision between two minivans occurred west of Exeter on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision resulted in the death of a passenger.
Officers responded to a complaint of a collision involving two vehicles near the intersection of Penlan Avenue and Spruce Road in Exeter just before 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
CHP says that a silver Honda Odyssey was traveling north on Spruce Road, just north of Penlan Avenue, when the driver drifted into opposing traffic. This information was obtained after the CHP conducted an investigation. The Honda was involved in a head-on collision with a gold Chrysler Pacifica that was approaching from behind.
As the Chrysler came to a stop in a nearby orange orchard, the Honda remained in the street, according to the officers who responded to the scene. After suffering moderate injuries, the driver of the Honda was eventually able to free himself from the vehicle after being pinned inside.
The passenger in the Chrysler’s right front seat was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in this collision; nonetheless, they are investigating whether or not the driver of the Honda was distracted by her phone at the time of the collision.
More information will be shared when it becomes available, and the identify of the victim has not been made public at this time.
