Newtown Township, PA – A routine drive turned into a harrowing ordeal for Kathryn Runner, who was shot in a shocking road rage incident after passing a slow-moving vehicle on a Pennsylvania highway. The incident left Runner wounded but grateful to be alive, highlighting the dangers posed by unpredictable and violent reactions on the road.
The Harrowing Road Rage Incident
Runner detailed her experience to Philadelphia ABC affiliate WPVI, expressing disbelief at the attack. “I had no road rage,” she said. “I didn’t honk, didn’t gesture, didn’t provoke him. Lots of cars passed him—but why me?” On Monday evening around 6:30 p.m., Newtown Township police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Newtown Bypass and Woodbourne Road, where Runner was found with a gunshot wound to her left wrist.
According to Runner, the man in the slow vehicle suddenly brandished a firearm as she passed. She recounted, “As I went around, I just saw something shiny… then my window popped, and I saw the hole.” Despite her efforts to retreat, the suspect fired multiple shots, one of which struck her hand, causing immediate numbness in her fingers.
Police Response and Suspect Arrest
Promptly after the shooting, Runner contacted 911 and followed the suspect’s car to capture the license plate. The suspect made a sharp turn and fired two additional shots, escalating the danger. Police located the vehicle and arrested Christopher Corbi, 41, within minutes.
- Corbi was found in possession of a gun inside the vehicle.
- He faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle.
- Currently held without bond, Corbi’s next court date is set for November 6.
Newtown Township Police Chief emphasized, “This incident is a stark reminder of how quickly road rage can escalate to crimes of violence.”
