The victim passed away as a result of her injuries, and the man who was arrested on suspicion of a violent assault is now being held on suspicion of homicide, according to the Pinole police department, which announced this on Wednesday.
On May 28, two individuals were assaulted while walking their dog in the vicinity of Bayfront Park in Pinole. The perpetrator of the attack is unknown. Vera Rowsey, who was 74 years old at the time, was one of the victims who needed to be transported to the hospital after being assaulted with a blunt weapon.
An individual named Miguel Patino, who is 27 years old, was identified as a suspect by the detectives. He was taken into custody in Richmond and brought into jail on accusations of aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse.
On June 4th, Rowsey passed away as a result of the injuries she sustained.
An acquaintance of Rowsey’s named Cathy Brown said, “This is terrible.” “Elderly people walk here all the time during the day, and to have this happen to a vibrant woman walking with her husband and dog is sad.”
The District Attorney’s Office for Contra Costa County has now brought charges against Patino, alleging that he committed murder and abused an elderly person. The police have stated that he is being jailed on bail of $1,125,000.
“Vera Rowsey was a beloved member of our Pinole community–we extend our deepest condolences to her family, impacted by this senseless act of violence,” said Pinole Mayor Cameron Sasai in a statement. “We thank our officers for their swift response and remain committed to supporting the path to justice and healing.”
It is difficult to fathom that someone who was so full of life could be taken away from this world in such a sudden manner, as Brown and other friends have expressed by placing flowers at a temporary monument on Bay Trail.
She was more than just a confidante. An acquaintance of Rowsey’s named Nannette Vides remarked that she was a significant figure in the neighborhood.
Calling the Pinole Police Department at the number (510) 724-8950 is strongly advised for anyone who may have information on this investigation.
