Dive teams were searching Tuesday afternoon for a teenage boy in the water off Illinois Beach State Park.
The sheriff’s office in Lake County, Illinois, reported that it used a boat and many drones to hunt for the 14-year-old child.
In addition, a number of fire departments were present, and the U.S. Coast Guard was dispatched from Milwaukee.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, a sonar boat from Round Lake, and fire department boats from Illinois and Wisconsin were observed at the scene.
The search was conducted using divers, inflatable boats, jet skis, and other rescue devices.
Initially, rescuers searched the shallow, protected waters at the beach close to the main parking lot. Later, however, the search expanded past the beach’s protective breakwaters.
According to the Beach Park Fire Department, crews were unable to find the boy on Tuesday. If circumstances permitted, the search was scheduled to resume on Wednesday.
North of Chicago in Lake County, close to Zion, is Illinois Beach State Park.
