On Sunday evening, severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for certain areas of Cook and Lake counties. These areas included sections of the counties.
Following the issuance of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the northern part of Lake County on Sunday evening, the warning was canceled at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Over Wadsworth and close to Gurnee, the storm that triggered the alert was observed traveling north at 15 miles per hour, with wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and hail that was the size of a coin.
The potential for damage to trees, siding, and roofs was present.
It was observed that rain was pouring in a slanting manner onto the parking lot of the Gurnee Mills mall while the storms were occurring.
Prior to 8:45 p.m., a warning was issued for the southeast part of Lake County and the north central portions of Cook County. The North Shore and the northwest suburbs, extending from Lake Forest south to Park Ridge and Niles, were among the primary locations that were originally impacted. After some time, the warning was reduced to just apply to some suburbs located in the North Shore area of Cook County.
Despite the fact that the Severe Thunderstorm warning was permitted to expire, a Special Marine Warning continued to be in place over Lake Michigan from Winthrop Harbor to Wilmette Harbor until 9:15 p.m. Those who were on the water were instructed to immediately evacuate to a safe harbor.
