SSA Payment Delayed for Thousands – Beneficiaries Will Have to Wait Until July

The Public Administration of the Social Security (SSA) of the United States is responsible for ensuring the US economy. Both from the point of view of the Government and the beneficiaries, Social Security aims to cover all the economic needs of the citizen.

Last June, monthly payments of social benefits were made on 30 May. This happened to coincide with a Sunday (non-working day), so the SSA payments were advanced. Retirees and people with disabilities welcomed it with open arms. However, this advanced payment occurred only by coincidence of dates. It is not a common practice. Beneficiaries will have to wait until 1 July to receive their next check.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

The Supplemental Security Income is a federal program of the United States Government for people with disabilities and retirees. Monthly payments to cover basic needs such as shelter, clothing and food. These are people with limited financial resources. Anyone can access it, including children, as long as they meet a number of requirements.

Eligibility requirements for SSA
This assistance is targeted at people over 65 with low incomes and the disabled. However, it can be accessed by anyone if they meet the following requirements:
Receive less than $2,019 per month.
Having limited resources. Less than $2,000 or $3,000 per couple.
Possess US citizenship.
Stay for a period of 1 month in the country.
Have received 2 payments from the SSA during the month of stay.
June´s SSI payment

Some beneficiaries of the SSI have been alerted after hearing that their next payment in July, will be delayed. But the reality is different. A group of beneficiaries received their income for the month of June on 30 May. Why? Social Security does not operate on holidays or weekends. On 1 June, it was a Sunday so the beneficiaries could not receive their payments. In these cases, the SSA’s payment schedule sends payments in advance.

This is why the month of June had “two” payments. Beneficiaries welcomed the advance payment, but now fear that it will be delayed next month. Citizens should note that any change in the date of payments does not affect the amount.

Dates of next payments

Unfortunately for the beneficiaries, what happened last June will only happen 3 more times this year. The timing of remaining payments does not coincide with non-working days or holidays, so there should be no change. The schedule for remaining payments is as follows:

July: Tuesday, July 1.
August: Friday, August 1.
September: Friday, August 29 (will be paid out early due to Labor Day).
October: Wednesday, October 1.
November: Friday, October 31 (will be received earlier due to November 1, falling on a weekend)..
December: Monday, December 1.
January 2026: Wednesday, December 31, 2025 (early payment).

If you are a beneficiary of the SSI and other Social Security benefits, the dates do not have to coincide because they follow totally different schedules.

Maximum amount of SSI

The amounts of social security and SSI benefits have absolutely nothing to do with each other. The amounts of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI), are much lower. The amount to be received varies according to factors such as the state supplements you receive, your living conditions and your income. These are the amounts that can be received according to the type of payment:

Individuals: $943 per month.
Couples: $1,415 per month.
Essential persons: $472 per month.

With all the above, if you are a SSI beneficiary and you worry about your next check, don’t be alarmed. You will have to wait until next July 1st as usual with each SSI payment.
