Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for suburban counties on Thursday night as powerful storms in the far west suburbs drew closer to Chicago. These storms were moving toward the city.
Nearly eight minutes after eight o’clock in the evening, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of Porter and Lake counties in Indiana. The alert included warnings of wind gusts of sixty miles per hour as well as damage to trees, siding, and roofs.
At approximately 7:40 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of McHenry and Lake counties in the state of Illinois. The warning included a possibility of wind gusts of up to sixty miles per hour.
Earlier, the National Weather Service issued a warning for some areas in the Chicago metropolitan area, including Kendall, Will, DeKalb, Kane, and DuPage counties.
That cautionary note has now been ignored.
The approaching storms have the potential to bring gusts of up to sixty miles per hour, and there is also the threat of hail that is the size of a pea.
The storm was traveling toward the northeast at a speed of twenty miles per hour, according to the professionals in charge of weather forecasting. It was positioned near the far west suburban area of Plano just before 6:30 p.m.
