The recovery of a toddler from Maryland who fell 15 stories from an apartment rooftop is truly amazing.
TJ Thompson is learning his numbers, like a lot of kids who are almost 3 years old. He is also getting better at walking again.
As TJ’s grandma Janiel Thompson put it, “He’s definitely our miracle baby.”
The fall is still fresh in TJ’s mind, according to Janiel and her wife Whitley.
Someone told Janiel Thompson, “He was sitting in his wheelchair one time and I think he thought he was going to fall. You could see the fear in his eyes.”
TJ fell from the balcony of the 15th floor of the Enclave Apartments in Silver Spring on May 15. He was visiting other family at the time.
He broken his leg, tore ligaments in his neck, bruised his lungs, and cut his liver when he fell into some bushes. He amazingly lived.
TJ couldn’t walk for weeks because he was in a cast.
“Seeing him fight. “Even though he’s happy, he can’t really move around like he used to,” Janiel Thompson said.
They had to begin again, as if he were a child.
“So we had to start the process of potty training all over again.” He should be able to use the bathroom outside now. He was really good at it until all of a sudden it stopped. It’s been hard, then.”
TJ still doesn’t want to put any weight on his leg, so he uses a wheelchair and a walker. His grandmothers are also afraid.
“You worry that he will hurt himself if he falls the wrong way or hits it too hard.” And if he does fall or jump, he could break it again. Then the six weeks in the cast would have to start all over again. Whitey Thompson said, “But for him, he’s just been a kid.”
They will find out next week if his leg is better enough to start physical treatment. But TJ is more excited about his third birthday this weekend and the toy trucks that come with it.
TJ said, “Please give me a bulldozer.”
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for hospital bills and therapy.
