This idea came from a Dutch expert. He proposed a very simple technique, wrapping the doorknob with aluminium foil. This has been very common in France, mostly during summer when home burglaries are more common. You might think this is crazy, how can this material be an alarm option? Well, there is a logical reason behind this method.
How does this aluminum foil work?
It’s simple! You just have to cover the doorknob with several aluminium foil layers. This material we use in the kitchen is intended to work as a homebrew acoustic alarm.
If you do this, when someone tries to open the door to break into your house, the aluminium foil creases and makes a strong and crunchy noise. This will alert the people inside the house, the neighbors and scare the thief because they are very silent and this noise will be a surprise for them.
Try it mostly in summer
Why in summer? Because this is the period of the year where more houses are empty for a long time, since their owners go on vacation. That’s why summer is a great opportunity to put this method into practice.

But… does it really work?
