When the Fourth of July weekend rolled around, a father and son from the south suburbs of Chicago were found dead on Lake Michigan in Porter County, Indiana, according to the authorities.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources dispatched conservation officers to the area of Dunes Acres, which is next to the Indiana Dunes National Park, at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Saturday. The rescue operation was an active water rescue. The rescue operation took place in a remote location, which necessitated the utilization of off-road vehicles and a patrol boat by the conservation authorities, according to the announced information.
In a press release issued by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, it was said that by the time conservation officials arrived at the site, both men had already been rescued from the river by a friendly stranger. In addition to administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), conservation officers and National Park Rangers transported both individuals to the Port of Indiana via boat, according to the officials.
David Meneou, 65, of Joliet, and Jameson Meneou, 20, of Lockport, were identified as the victims, according to the data provided by the Department of Natural Resources. Two males were in the water when Jameson entered deep water and began to struggle, according to the first findings of the investigation. During that time, David made an effort to save his son, but he also began to struggle toward freedom.
Since Sunday evening, the incident has been the subject of ongoing investigation.
