Authorities announced Monday that a 20-year-old man shot and killed his mother on Sunday afternoon in Red Oak. It was a very sad event.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office says that Dwight Xavier Jones Jr. is being charged with murder in the death of Stephanie Easter, his mother, who was 58 years old. Around noon on Sunday, police were called to a house in the 100 block of Ridge Oak Drive and found Easter dead from a gunshot wound.

She was declared dead at the scene of the accident. This was a sad end to what neighbours called a close-knit family.

Jones was arrested without any struggle, according to police. He is currently being held at the Wayne McCollum Detention Centre. He is still being investigated while he waits to be arraigned.

Sheriff Brad Norman spoke to the people on Monday and said, “Investigators are carefully looking into every aspect of this case, and we will let you know as soon as we have any new information.” He stressed how important it was to keep looking into what happened so that all the facts could be found.

Many people in the Red Oak area are shocked and want to know what happened. The reason for the killing or the events that led to it have not been made public, but the police are actively following all leads.

People in the neighbourhood sent their respects and shared their sadness over the death of a woman who was known and liked by many in the area. The tragedy has had a huge impact on everyone, from neighbours and family to friends.

Sheriff Norman told anyone who knew anything about the case to come forward. People should call Case Agent Jeremiah Banks at (972) 825-4929 to talk to him at the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

While the community deals with this upsetting event, officials are still trying to figure out what happened that led to this terrible loss. The family is likely to have some tough days ahead while police look for justice.

This case is still open and being looked into. More updates will be sent out as new information comes in.

Red Oak is still sad about Stephanie Easter’s death and hopes that they can heal after a terrible tragedy that no family should ever have to go through.
