An Amtrak train struck and killed a woman from New Hampshire who was attempting to rescue an unrestrained dog from the tracks in Exeter. Her loved ones are in a state of shock as a result of the tragedy.
For Jackson, Alicia Leonardi, who is 42 years old and lives in Plaistow, would have done anything.
According to Cathleen Collis, Leonardi’s mother, “She had a deep affection for that dog.” “And it wasn’t even her dog.”
At the time, Leonardi was out on a stroll with her ex-boyfriend and his dog on Monday afternoon. According to the authorities, they were walking along the train tracks close to the trestle that is located on Newfielders Road.
Jackson ran onto the tracks when he heard the horn of an Amtrak train approaching just as it was getting closer.
“They said the train came around and spooked the dog, and she went after the dog, and that’s when she got hit,” Collis explained to reporters.
The train struck both Leonardi and her ex-boyfriend as they attempted to remove the dog from the tracks. Leonardi was injured in the accident. He had minor injuries, and she was killed in the incident. No harm was done to the dog.
Collis remarked, “She is a courageous young lady.” “She has always been a girl who is courageous. Skilled, a passion for assisting others, and a desire to assist everyone.
Despite the fact that her family is in mourning at the unexpected loss, they are in awe of Leonardi’s bravery in attempting to save the puppy.
“She possessed a vivacious attitude and a wonderful grin. Joe Gately, her cousin, remarked that she was a stunning woman. It’s being difficult for the family. If she walked into the room with a smile on her face, everyone in the room smiled.
Leonardi was a resident of Manchester, she was employed at a restaurant, and she had the intention of returning to school to study skincare someday.
A vast and loving family is what she leaves behind, along with her mother and her daughter, who is 24 years old.
The words “I am going to miss her and I love her very much” were spoken by Collis. “And she’s going to be greatly missed by everybody.”
According to a statement released by the police, “Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Leonardi.” The statement also mentioned that the police were working with Amtrak and CSX police to investigate what had occurred.
