Tragic Crash in Pennsylvania Claims Life of 21-Year-Old Maryland Volunteer Firefighter

On Wednesday, May 28, a 21-year-old volunteer firefighter from two fire departments in Maryland died in a crash in Pennsylvania with a parked diesel truck.

The Pennsylvania State Police say that Joscelynne Pannone lost control on the wet I-81 southbound in Daughin County and hit the back of a parked tractor-trailer on the right shoulder. Pannone was declared dead at the scene of the crime.

The Baltimore County Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company sent its sympathies to Pannone’s family. Pannone was a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Along with his job, Pannone also helped out with the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department.

A post on social media from the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company asked people to pray for her family, friends, and both fire departments. “She will truly be missed by many.”

The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department said she became a member in 2023. She had served in the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department in the past.

“During her time at Waldorf, Joscelynne assisted with the fire prevention program at Company 3, in addition to providing emergency services even while she was continuing her education,” the Waldorf Fire Company said. “Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

Baltimore mourns the deaths of two firefighters

The Baltimore fire community is still sad about the deaths of two firemen who had medical emergencies while on the job.

They were Lt. Mark Dranbauer and Firefighter Charles Mudra. They died on May 16.

According to Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace, Lt. Dranbauer had a medical problem 30 to 40 feet up on a ladder. He had been a member of the Baltimore City Fire Department for 23 years.

He fell backwards but stayed on the aerial ladder. Other firemen helped him get down. After four days, he died in the hospital.

Mudra, who had been a firefighter for 17 years, had a health problem at the Fire Academy while he was learning new skills. Johns Hopkins Hospital said that the driver of the department’s emergency car was dead.
