Tragic Discovery: Maine's First Comfort Dog Found Dead Inside State Vehicle

The untimely passing of Baxter, a chocolate lab who was three years old and served as the first official comfort dog in the state of Maine, has left the Maine Department of Public Safety in a state of mourning. Baxter was a source of solace and companionship for those who responded to emergencies.

At approximately two o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, the body of Baxter was discovered contained within a state vehicle that was parked at the Bangor Regional Communications Centre.

It was reported by the Department of Public Safety that the car suddenly stopped functioning, which resulted in the air conditioning system shutting down.

State officials have stated that the vehicle was utilised on a consistent basis for the transportation of Baxter. In order to discover any potential problems with the car, a comprehensive inspection is currently being performed.

During the year 2022, Baxter became a member of the Maine Bureau of Emergency Communications and provided emotional support to emergency telecommunicators working at the three regional dispatch centres located throughout the state.

In a statement, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) said, “His presence, which was both calming and cheerful, will be deeply missed by all those who interacted with him.” “The department extends its deepest condolences to Baxter’s handler and his family, as well as the entire emergency telecommunication team.”

The Department of Public Safety has stated that it is presently investigating the manner in which Baxter passed away. There was no other information that was immediately accessible.
