Tragic Head-On Collision Between Woodstock Woman and Ambulance Results in Death

Mabel Esquivel, 44, a resident of Marengo, has been officially identified as the person who passed away as a result of a collision that occurred last week close to Woodstock.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., the collision took place on Route 176, which is located west of Sunnyside Road in the unincorporated area of Woodstock. Wednesday was the day that a 2019 Dodge Challenger driven by a man from Marengo, who was 44 years old, crossed the centerline and struck head-on with a 2016 Mazda 6.

At the time of the collision, neither the passenger in the Dodge, a woman from Marengo who was already 44 years old, nor the driver, also from Marengo, who was also 44 years old, were wearing their seatbelts. At the scene of the accident, Esquivel was pronounced deceased after being ejected from the vehicle.

An autopsy found that she had died as a result of blunt force trauma, according to preliminary findings.

The individual, who was 44 years old and from Marengo, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was in critical condition. Two people were sent to Northwestern Medical Center in Woodstock by ambulance: the driver of the Mazda 6, a lady from Union who was 27 years old, and the boy who was four years old and riding as a passenger in her vehicle. Subsequently, the boy was sent to Lurie’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where he was found to have sustained severe injuries.

In addition, a dog that was sitting inside the Mazda passed away, and another dog was transported to an emergency veterinarian for supervision.

Currently, the investigation into what caused the crash is still ongoing.
