CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The community of Port Aransas gathered together on Saturday to celebrate the life of Byron Davis, a student at Port Aransas High School who passed away after his pickup truck swerved off Cotter Avenue near Tarrant Street and smashed into a building. Davis was 17 years old at the time of his death.
Within the vicinity of the high school, a large number of friends, students, and members of the community came to commemorate the life of Byron and the profound influence he had on those who were in his immediate vicinity.
Graduate of Port Aransas High School Kali Moore said, “Our community looks out for each other,” and she was right. “Some of these people, whether we’ve known him his whole life or you just moved here this year, everybody is willing to come together and support one another, especially during hard times like this.”
As a result of his bright energy and fun-loving nature, Byron was remembered by his friends as someone who brought joy to every place he visited.
A friend of Davis’s Jacob Bowler stated, “Throughout the entirety of the time that I’ve known him, he’s always been kind of kiddish and a little bit of a jokester.” For example, if you threw a punch at him, he would throw it back twice as hard, but he was all about having fun. “He was just a fun guy,” is how my closest friends and I recall him at this point in time.
The Port Aransas area has experienced three fatalities as a result of automobile accidents in a little more than a month.
Currently, the investigation into what caused the crash is still ongoing.
