According to a post that was made on social media by Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders, the force of a single-vehicle collision that occurred on Friday evening in Tumwater was so powerful that the engine became separated from the driving vehicle.
In the post, it was not immediately evident what the car had collided with until further investigation.
Deputy sheriffs from Thurston County, police officers from Tumwater and a fire team from East Olympia were taken to the scene of the crash that occurred on 93rd Avenue Southeast, which is located between Interstate 5 and Old Highway 99.
According to what Sanders stated in his post, “911 callers reported the vehicle was on fire, fully engulfed, and exploding all at the same time.”
The motorist was rescued from what Sanders referred to as a “fiery wreck” by a constable who was the first to arrive at the scene of the accident where the incident occurred.
Sanders stated that the motorist was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs as well as driving with a licence that had been suspended.
According to him, the collision was powerful enough to cause the engine to be thrown out of the vehicle. Along with the post was a photograph that showed the engine parked on the road.
