There was yet another water main break that occurred on Tuesday along Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, which was generating problems.
The incident took place on the morning of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, parallel to the intersection of Cottman and Oxford Avenues. This occurred one day after a different water main break had taken place just three miles distant.
It has been reported by the Philadelphia Water Department that personnel have been working throughout the day to repair a water main break that is the source of the leak.
At 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, they were able to restore all of the water.
The water department initially reported that the breach was eight inches in diameter; however, in a subsequent statement that was made public, they clarified that the break, which took place on Tuesday about two in the morning, was actually six inches in diameter.
Upon arrival, it was observed that water was flowing into the pedestrian street.
On Tuesday morning, the portion of Cottman Avenue that was located between Rising Sun Avenue and Bingham Street was closed.
Rising Sun Avenue to Palmetto Street remained closed in both directions as of three o’clock in the afternoon, however as of the same time, Rising Sun Avenue to Oxford Avenue reopened in both directions.

On Monday, July 21, at approximately three o’clock in the afternoon, another water main broke. According to the officials, technicians were dispatched to the vicinity of Cottman Avenue and James Street in order to address the leak.
According to the officials, the leak was originating from a main that was eight inches in diameter. Workers had turned off the main power supply in order to make repairs. Beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, water service was completely restored to clients in that region. On the other hand, James Street is still closed at the intersection because the road is still being repaired by these workmen.
